Cheap flights to Lagos – Nigeria

Cheap flights to Lagos – Azzy Travel Limited’s fast and efficient flight search has millions of cheap fares to Lagos. We work on live GDS systems in order to get you the best possible fare with shortest stopover flights.

Lagos cheap flights are available from most UK airports including London Heathrow, London Gatwick, Stansted, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Bradford, Newcastle, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Belfast, Aberdeen airports either directly or by a connecting flight.

About Lagos

Lagos is the most populous city in Nigeria, the largest country in Africa. The metropolitan area, an estimated 300 square kilometers, is a group of islands endowed with creeks and a lagoon. Lagos is projected to be one of the world’s five largest cities by 2005.  In an effort to reduce massive urbanization in the metropolitan area, the Federal Government is in the process of moving the capital to Abuja.

The original settlers of Lagos, or Eko as it is called by the indigenous population, were of Benin and Awori Eko heritage. The city began in the fifteenth century as a Portuguese trading post exporting ivory, peppers, and slaves. It subsequently fell into the hands of the British, who began exporting food crops after outlawing slavery in 1807. Although Nigeria gained independence in 1960, a two-and-a-half year civil war broke out in 1967.

Lagos is the commercial and industrial hub of Nigeria, with a GNP triple that of any other West African country. Lagos has greatly benefited from Nigeria’s natural resources in oil, natural gas, coal, fuel wood and water. Light industry was prevalent in post-independence Nigeria and petroleum-related industry dominated in the 1970′s, directly affecting the rapid growth of Lagos.

Nigeria offers a wide variety of tourist attractions such as extended and roomy river and ocean beaches ideal for swimming and other water sports, unique wildlife, vast tracts of unspoiled nature ranging from tropical forest, magnificent waterfalls, some new rapidly growing cities and climatic conditions in some parts particularly conducive to holidaying. Other attractions include traditional ways of life preserved in local customs; rich and varied handicrafts and other colourful products depicting or illustrative of native arts and lifestyle, and the authentic unsophisticated but friendly attitude of many in the Nigerian population.

However, many of these attractions are still largely untapped and even at their raw states; they are still being enjoyed by few outsiders, either very rich visitors in quest of exoticism or adventurous people in search of new challenges and experiences.

Climate

Lagos has a tropical savanna climate that is similar to that of the rest of southern Nigeria. There are two rainy seasons, with the heaviest rains falling from April to July and a weaker rainy season in October and November. There is a brief relatively dry spell in August and September and a longer dry season from December to March. Monthly rainfall between May and July averages over 400 mm (15.7 in), while in August and September it is down to 200 mm (7.9 in) and in December as low as 25 mm (1.0 in). The main dry season is accompanied by harmattan winds from the Sahara Desert, which between December and early February can be quite strong.

At Azzy Travel Limited you will find cheapest fares for Lagos while traveling with best airlines in the world like Emirates, Qatar Airways, Etihad Airways, British Airways, Arik Air, Kenya Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Air France and many more…

About Dhaka

Dhaka, formerly Dacca, is the capital and largest city of Bangladesh. It is located in the geographic center of the country in the great deltaic region of the Ganges and Brahmaputra rivers.Dhaka was founded during the 10th century. It served as the Mogul capital of Bengal from 1608 to 1704 and was a trading center for British, French, and Dutch interests before coming under British rule in 1765. In 1905 it was again named the capital of Bengal, and in 1956 it became the capital of East Pakistan.

Dhaka is well connected with the important cities and towns of Bangladesh by regular bus and train services run by both state owned and private operators. In addition, there are many routes covered by the meandering waterways of Bangladesh. One of the most enjoyable ‘steamer’ journeys is the “Rocket” Service between Dhaka and Khulna, the third largest commercial centre of the country.

Places of Interest

Suhrawardy Uddyan : At a stones throw from Dhaka Sheraton Hotel is the Suhrawardy Uddyan, formerly known as the Race Course, the popular park of the city. It is here that the oath for independence of Bangladesh was taken on the 7th March 1971 and curiously enough again it is here that the commander of the occupation forces surrendered on the 16th December 1971.

Shishu Park : The Child Education & Recreation Park is located in a corner of the Suhrawardy Uddyan.

Central Shahid Minar : This monument is the symbol of Bangladesh Nationalism. It was built to commemorate the martyrs of historic Language Movement of 1952. Although this movement was apparently for the recognition of Bangla as one of the state languages of the then Pakistan, it was in fact, the first outburst of popular feelings against the unpopular and autocratic government. All subsequent movements in Bangladesh leading to her independence in 1971, owe their origin to this movement and, therefore, this monument has become a place of pilgrimage for millions of Bangladeshis.

Banga Bbaban : Tourists can have an external view of Banga Bhaban, the official residence of the Head of the State – the President.

Lalbagh Fort : The Fort of Aurangabad, popularly known as the Lalbagh Fort, was built in 1678 A.D. by Prince Mohammed Azam, son of the Mughal Emperor Aurangazeb, who was then the Viceroy of Bengal. The fort has a three storeyed structure with slender minarets at the south gate. It has many hidden passages and a mosque of massive structure. Outstanding among the monuments of the Lalbagh Fort are the Tomb of Pari Bibi (fairy lady) and Audience and Hammam of Nawab Shaista Khan now housing a museum.

Boroe Katra : A building of grand scale, now almost in ruins is one of the most important remains of the Mughal period in Dhaka. It is of the type of Katra’ (enclosed quardrangle building) with a gigantic frontage towards the river Buriganga. It was built by Abul Qasim, Dewan of Shah Shuja in l644 A.D. It served the purpose of a caravan serai.

Ch’hotoe Katra : Situated about 200 yards east of Boroe Katra, Ch’hotoe Katra was built in 1663 A.D. by Nawab Shaista Khan. This is of similar plan and purpose as the Boroe Katra but smaller in size.

National Museum : The museum contains a large number of interesting collections including sculptures and paintings of the Hindu, Buddhist and Muslim periods as well as inscriptions of the Holy Quran in Arabic and Persian letters and Bengali works in the Arabic script. The Museum also has a rich collection of old coins metal images, books on art, ivory and silver filigree works.

National Art Gallery : Situated in the Shilpakala Academy premises, this has a representative collection of folk art and painting by artists of Bangladesh.

Baldha Garden : Baldha Garden has rare collection of botanical plants and flowers.

Ramna Green : Ramna Park is a vast stretch of green surrounded by a serpentine lake.

Zoological Garden : Called Mirpur Zoo, it is situated in Mirpur, 16 km NW of Dhaka, on 230 acres of land.

About Delhi

Delhi is the largest metropolis by area and the second-largest by population in India, next to Mumbai. It is the eighth largest metropolis in the world by population with 16,753,265 inhabitants in the Territory.

Scratch beyond the gritty surface and you’ll swiftly discover that India’s capital is sprinkled with glittering gems: captivating ancient monuments, magnificent museums, a vivacious performing-arts scene and some of the subcontinent’s yummiest places to eat.

A vibrant melting pot, you’ll hear a jumble of vernaculars spoken in Delhi, the most common being Hindi, English, Punjabi and Urdu. In terms of its layout, Delhi encapsulates two very different worlds, the ‘old’ and the ‘new’, each presenting deliciously different experiences. Spacious New Delhi was built as the imperial capital of India by the British; rambunctious Old Delhi served as the capital of Islamic India. Visitors can easily dip into both, spending half the day immersing themselves in history at the dramatic Red Fort, Jama Masjid and medieval-flavored bazaars of Old Delhi, and the other half reviving themselves over frothy cappuccinos or frosty cocktails at one of New Delhi’s swanky cafés and bars. Furthermore, Delhi’s recent global cuisine revolution means that hungry travelers can now feast on everything from meaty Mughlai curries and plump South Indian idlis (rice cakes), to crispy wood-fired pizzas and squishy sashimi.

Climate

The average temperature of Delhi in summers ranges from 41 Celsius to 27 Celsius. It starts rising from mid April and hits the peak temperatures of 41 Celsius to 45 Celsius beginning mid May to mid June and then tapers down to 40 Celsius and 37 Celsius by July and further dips till the monsoon arrives bringing some respite to the population. Winters is very cold due to the city’s close proximity to the Himalayan ranges especially during snow fall season around Jammu and Kashmir, Shimla and Uttarakhand and the Yamuna River water body; hence all these factors and surrounding areas modulates the temperature of Delhi and sometimes called the continental climate.

Where to stay

The captivating capital of Delhi is a mixture of old and new with ancient villages lying next to modern residences. Situated between the Aravalli hills and the Yamuna River, the city offers a feast of historic sites, museums, parks, shops, bars and restaurants.

Amritsar cheap flights are available from most UK airports including London Heathrow, London Gatwick, Stansted, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Bradford, Aberdeen, Newcastle, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Belfast airports either directly or by a connecting flight.

About Amritsar

Amritsar is the main city in the state of Punjab. Ram Das, the fourth Sikh guru, founded Amritsar in 1577. Amritsar, or Pool of Nectar, (amrit–nectar, sar–pool) was named for the sacred pool by the Golden Temple. Amritsar is 450km (280 miles) northwest of Delhi. Most visitors are impressed by the friendliness of the people and they usually recommend visiting.

In 1761, Ahmad Shah Durani sacked the city and the temple was destroyed. It was rebuilt in 1764, and the roof was copper-gilded in 1802, giving it the name the “Golden Temple.” Members of the Sikh religion are known as Sahajdharis.

NOTE If you are traveling through Amritsar and have a couple of hours between connections, the Golden Temple is only 15 minutes from the railway station, so it can easily be visited.

Orientation
The old city, where the Golden Temple is situated, is surrounded by a circular road, which used to be the site of the large city walls. There are 18 gates left. The bazaar has narrow lanes. The railway station is northwest of this area. Northeast of the railway station is the more modern section of Amritsar, where many of the hotels and the Ram Bagh Gardens are located. One km east of this area is the bus station.

Hari Mandir (Golden Temple)
This is the holiest temple of the Sikh religion. The Sikhs refer to this temple as Hari Mandir (“the Temple of the Lord”), or Darbar Sahib (“the Court of the Lord”). It is located in the middle of a large tank known as Amrita Sarovara, “Pool of Nectar.” The temple dome was covered with 100 kg (220 lb) of gold leaf, giving the temple its name. The temple’s interior is elaborately decorated.

Climate

The summers are too hot and winters are too cold. The best time to visit this pilgrimage site in India is during winter (October to March) when the air is less humid and the temperature pleasant. At the time of festivals many people visit Amritsar.

It should be noted, however, that the “cooler” months tend to be more humid than the warmer months. As a result, during the warmer months and particularly during the windy harmattan season, the city experiences a breezy “dry heat” that feels less warm than the “cooler” but more humid rainy season.
